“Hike the Reek” to help support St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh

1 Apr 2023

On Saturday 17 June, the people of the Archdiocese of Armagh are being invited to "step up to the mark” and HIKE THE REEK in support of St Patrick’s Cathedral.

In this, the 150th year since the Dedication of the iconic building, a fundraising programme has begun and is being rolled out, to help preserve the Cathedral Church for future generations. Speaking recently, Fr Peter McAnenly, Administrator of the Cathedral said "a lot of repointing and maintenance work has been done to the Cathedral over the last few years, in order to protect it from water ingress and more work needs to be done in the near future. Such is the nature of old buildings he said, that they constantly need work and attention and major work is to begin shortly, to restore the 52 steps which lead to the beautiful and well known building”.

Given the costs associated with the work and to help protect the building for future generations, people are being invited to honour those who have supported the Cathedral over the last 150 years, by helping to generate much needed funds, to maintain the Cathedral for generations to come.

In the coming weeks, the people of the Archdiocese of Armagh and beyond are invited to generate a minimum of £150 or €150 and join in pilgrimage, to the top of Croagh Patrick on Saturday 17 June. On the day, Mass will be celebrated at the summit of Ireland’s Holy Mountain at 12noon and 2pm. Sponsorship cards are now available at Armagh Parish Office (028/048 37522813) or by emailing: armaghparishoffice@gmail.com.
