World Mission Sunday on 20th October
5 Oct 2024
Below is a letter from Mgr Colum Curry, the Diocesan Director for Missio Ireland.
Dear Father / Deacon,
I hope you are well. As we approach the month of October, I wish to draw attention to World Mission Sunday which will take place on 20th October 2024.
This is the one Sunday in the year when the entire global Church unites together in support of the Holy Father’s appeal for spiritual and financial support for overseas mission. The theme for this year’s celebration of Mission Sunday is: "Go and invite everyone to the banquet.” (Matthew 22.9)
At a recent meeting of Diocesan Directors for Missio Ireland, held in the Columba Centre, Maynooth, we were joined by Fr Dinh Anh Nhue, Secretary General, Pontifical Missionary Union in Rome. He expressed his gratitude to all who support and promote mission awareness in Ireland. He stressed that projects funded by Pontifical Missionary Society are focused on evangelisation. Last year they were able to support 90,000 projects world-wide. The contribution from the Archdiocese of Armagh for Mission Sunday 2023 was €45,689.
I attach a copy of Mission Month Toolkit which you may wish to share on your website or other social media. Alternatively, you may access the web site www.missio.ie where you will find extensive information and useful resources.
On Friday 11th October children in primary schools are encouraged to pray for the well-being of children living in poverty and fear around the world. A collection of prayer resources has been circulated to Catholic primary schools and parishes
It would be much appreciated if all returns from the Mission Sunday collection could be returned to Ara Coeli at your earliest convenience following Mission Sunday.
With kind regards and every blessing,
Colum Curry (Rev)
Diocesan Director for Missio Ireland
