Year of Reflection and Prayer

This year, 2020, has been designated a Year of Reflection and Prayer in the Archdiocese of Armagh, as we renew the process of planning for the future. A service to launch the Year of Reflection and Prayer will take place in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh, on Thursday, 30 January at 7.30pm. An open invitation is extended to everyone in the diocese.

The associated website is now live and can be found at www.armaghprays.com.

Parishioners are asked to keep the diocese in their prayers during the year so that together we may be guided by the Holy Spirit as we reflect on how best to keep the mission of Christ alive in our local Church in the years to come.

The next meeting of the Loup & District Historical Society is scheduled for Thursday, 30th January 2020 in St Patrick’s GAC, Loup at 8 pm.

Aidan Fee will talk about Marcus Costello who originated from the area.

Marcus Costello was a native of Tamlaght parish. Born at the beginning of the nineteenth century in Ballymoyle townland, he went to school in Coagh, entered Trinity College Dublin and qualified as a barrister in 1830. He was Daniel O'Connell's deputy at a time when the Liberator was leading the movement to repeal the Act of Union and to restore an Irish Parliament to Dublin.

Credo Conference

The upcoming Young Adult Conference, Credo, takes place on 8th February 2020 in Dromantine Retreat & Conference Centre.

Now in it’s third year, Credo is an opportunity for over-20’s to get away from the chaos of everyday life and gather with other like-minded Catholics for a relaxing day of faith talks, workshops, adoration, praise, confessions and Holy Mass, as well as lunch, tea/coffee on tap & a swag bag of goodies! We are blessed to have Fr. James O’Reilly & Laura Whinnery as our guest speakers this year. They will speak on this year's theme: ‘He loved them to the end’ - John 13:1.  The event is open to anyone over the age of 20.

Father James O'Reilly is originally from Poleglass, Belfast. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2016. Fr. James is a graduate of St. Mary's University Belfast, he served as a missionary in Detroit, Michigan and has spent time working for Youth Initiatives; a Christian youth organisation based in West Belfast. Fr. James O’Reilly currently serves as curate in the Parish of Antrim.

Laura Whinnery is the Alpha NI youth & schools worker and is the former Faith Development Worker for Youth Initiatives, where she ran school retreats and prayer groups for young people who wanted to explore their faith and connect with their local parish. Her passions include Jesus, politics, jazz, gin and bad jokes.
